Some women face a hard time in getting pregnant. Even if they get pregnant, they have to be extra careful for keeping it safe as not only the smallest mistake terminates the pregnancy but it also affects womens health. Infertility is usually diagnosed when a woman does not get pregnant after trying for at least a year. Women are considered as infertile if they face repeated miscarriages too. When a couple faces problems in conceiving a baby, it is estimated that the problem may be due to:
  • The infertility of the man
  • The infertility of the woman
  • The infertility of both the man and woman
This is the reason that doctors usually suggest tests of fertility for both man and woman who are trying to conceive a child.

Most of the health care providers ask women to try for at least a year before they seek the infertility testing. Though, it is suggested that women discuss their pre-pregnancy health with a doctor before they start trying to conceive a baby.
There are certain health problems that make this process more difficult. Do not wait for a year if you know you have the history of:
  • Irregular periods
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Thyroid problems
  • Repeated miscarriages
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
Usually the doctors recommend all women over the age of 35 to go for the infertility test after 6 months of trying to conceive.

Causes Of Infertility In Women

Rate of infertility in women is increasing these days. According to the experts, one reason behind this infertility is because women are now waiting to get older to have kids. Any woman, however, can have the infertility problem. It can affect women of any age; older or younger, in relationship with a woman or a man or single. There are several reasons why a woman might have infertility problem. These include:
  • No ovulating (releasing the eggs)
  • Eggs are of poor quality
  • Blocked fallopian tubes which stop the sperm from meeting the egg
  • Endometriosis
  • Shape of uterus makes it almost impossible for fertilized eggs to implant
Though you should keep looking for signs of female infertility but there are cases where no reason is known for someone’s infertility. In such a case, the problem is called an unexplained infertility and it can be a frustrating diagnosis. Even if you have unexplained infertility, there are still several treatments that you can consider.

What Can Increase The Risk Of Infertility

There are a few things that can increase the risk of infertility in women. They include:
  • Being older than the age of 35 years
  • History of several health problems or STDs that may cause the hormonal changes
  • Being underweight or overweight
  • Radiation or chemotherapy treatment for cancer
  • Excessive alcohol or drug use
  • Environmental toxins like pesticides or lead
  • Smoking cigarettes
  • Poor diet

Female Infertility Treatment

Most women who are taking the infertility treatment often have to take medication. The medication is intended to treat the ovulation and hormone problems. However, there are some side effects of such medications. Make sure that you discuss with your doctor about all possible risks and benefits of the medications.
The medications can be used with other treatments or alone which would help the sperm and egg unite. Most common treatments are:
  • In vitro fertilization (IVF)
  • Intra-Uterine Insemination (IUI)
The health care provider helps in deciding the best treatment for conceiving a baby, keeping in mind the womens health. Women are also suggested to focus on stress reduction in order to increase chances of pregnancy.
